The Queenstown Trail network includes more than 200km of cycle and pedestrian trails linking the townships and suburbs of the Whakatipu Basin. Offering stunning alpine vistas and unforgettable experiences, most sections of the Queenstown Trail remain open all year, but please make safe, sensible decisions when weather forecasts are extremely wet or when conditions are challenging.

Coronet Loop Trail
Closed until further notice
Waiwhakaata Lake Hayes Trail
Slip remediation works are still to be completed, flood waters have receded at the southern end, the bridge at the northern end remains closed.
Frankton Track
Due to major infrastructure upgrades along the Frankton Track, a detour via the sealed footpath alongside Frankton Road will be in place throughout 2026. Please follow signage for the alternative route.
Arrow River Bridges Trail
Swain Bridge remains closed while repairs are underway. Works will take 4–6 weeks, with detour signage in place. Please follow crew instructions on site.
Shotover Gorge Trail
Repair work is being scheduled, there are still some sections of scour to take care of, Hugo Tunnel has had an initial tidy up and is drying out.
Countryside Trail
Scour repair still to be completed - take care.
Wharehuanui Trail
Repairs to Mill Creek section are completed, there are still some sections of loose gravel on the trail adjacent to Malaghans Road. Proceed with caution.
