Tucker Beach Trail
4.4km one way
30min bike
1hr walk
Grade
2
Meandering above the Shotover River, the Tucker Beach Trail is perfect for families, beginners or anyone looking for a relaxed ride with great scenery. Linking with the Twin Rivers and Countryside Trails at the Old Lower Shotover Bridge, the Tucker Beach Trail climbs gently through Willows and follows a high terrace along the true right of the Kimi-ākau Shotover River, with beautiful views back towards the historic bridge and the Remarkables.
The trail skirts around bluffs before descending towards the Tucker Beach Wildlife Management Reserve, with Coronet Peak dominating the skyline across to the north. The reserve is home to endangered gravel birds including Banded Dotterel and Black-fronted Tern, and is the focus of an active ecological restoration project by the Tucker Beach Wildlife Trust who have transformed the area in recent years.
As it climbs back out of the reserve, the trail joins Tucker Beach Road briefly before descending to the start of the Shotover Gorge Trail and the Kimi-ākau Bridge. Continue on the Shotover Gorge Trail to reach Arthurs Point.

Adaptive Riding Info
Trail Width: Generally >2m
Structures: There is one short section of narrower boardwalk located 100m from the Old Lower Shotover Bridge carpark. This boardwalk can have a bit of a “step” at each end depending on how the gravel is wearing between the trail surface and the boardwalk deck. Alternative access to the Tucker Beach Trail can be reached 500m further along Tucker Beach Road from the Old Lower Shotover Bridge carpark — a small gravel carpark and trail access can be found on the river-side of Tucker Beach Road.
Trail Gradient: The Tucker Beach Trail includes some undulating sections, especially where the trail climbs higher above the river near the Old Lower Shotover Bridge.
Trail Etiquette & Safety
Shared by walkers and bikers. One short section shares Tucker Beach Road — keep left and watch for vehicles. Steep drops near the river’s edge in places — stay on the trail.
