⚠️ Detour in place throughout 2026: due to major infrastructure upgrades, a detour via the sealed footpath alongside Frankton Road (SH6A) is in place. Follow detour signage carefully and be aware of road traffic.
One of the most popular and accessible trails in the network, the Frankton Track follows the lakefront from the Queenstown Gardens all the way to Frankton — past the Marina, along the water’s edge, and out to the historic Kawarau Falls Bridge. It’s busy for good reason: the views of Lake Whakatipu and the Remarkables are stunning, and there are cafes, restaurants and facilities along the way. Stop at Frankton Marina for a coffee or a craft beer, then pause at the Kawarau Falls Bridge to admire the crystal-clear Kawarau River flowing beneath.
A great commuter route for locals, a lovely introduction to the trail network for visitors, and ideal for families. This trail links to the Kelvin Heights Trail and Twin Rivers Trail at Kawarau Falls Bridge.
