Jacks Point Trail
6.3km
2 - 3 hrs return
2hrs one way
Grade
4
One of the most spectacular sections of the entire Queenstown Trail network, the Jacks Point Trail rewards the effort with incredible views of Lake Whakatipu stretching south toward Kingston, and the Eyre Mountains rising to the west. The trail undulates through a wild landscape of native bush and schist outcrops above the lake, with jaw-dropping vistas around every corner.
It’s classified Grade 4 for good reason — steep climbs and descents, narrow trail and tight bends; the last 2km are particularly steep. The trail is narrower than most of the Queenstown Trail network, though the surface is generally good.
Experienced, confident off-road riders will love it; less experienced riders are very welcome to get off and push for the steeper sections — the scenery makes it worthwhile either way.
At the Jardine Park end, the park offers a playground, disc golf and a flying fox. At Jacks Point, the clubhouse and Hanley Farm village have great cafes — perfect for a well-earned post-ride refreshment.
Under development for 2026 will be a dedicated off-road trail beneath Peninsula Hill, which will create a loop back to the Kawarau Falls Bridge to complete the circuit.

Steep Sections: The Jacks Point Trail includes multiple steep sections along its length, with some tight and narrow corners.
Narrow Structures: There are several cattle-stop features at various locations along the trail, comprising a metal grid flush with the trail surface, bounded by wooden railings — there should be a minimum clearance of 1.5m between the railings.
Sections of the Jacks Point Trail have loose or rocky/rooty surfaces.
Trail Etiquette & Safety
Sections of loose/soft gravel, rocks and roots. Keep speeds controlled — tight corners and steep drops require care. Watch for other trail users on blind corners.
